What Do You See First?
When you walk into a forest
what do you notice first?
What comes to mind?
We never look at the world without assumptions
Our experience, values, and faith
shape what we notice first
You are reading these words now
because you can understand them
Someone who cannot read them
may come to the same page
and notice the image first

In the same way
a Christian studying Chinese characters
may notice connections that others might not immediately see
The meaning, structure, or history of a character
may sometimes reveal traces of God within culture
and history
These observations can be deeply meaningful
and may lead to personal spiritual insight
But they do not by themselves
prove that ancient people clearly knew God
nor do they automatically become
historical or archaeological evidence
Life, however
is not only about waiting for evidence
Faith is not built only after
everything has been proven
We cannot wait for complete certainty
before moving forward
But neither should we act
simply because we feel something strongly

What we can do is
keep discovering
keep discerning
and remind ourselves
that what we see is never the whole picture
